I haven’t blogged in a while because I’ve been busy. Busy growing my business, busy meeting with clients, busy creating a rocking course, busy creating a membership site (coming VERY SOON), busy helping others grow their brand ecosystems, but I’ve neglected my own. Shame on me! Today, however, I felt it VERY necessary to take some time out of my day to write a blog. I love writing, I really do, with that said, I need to share some thoughts and realities about being an entrepreneur in 2016.
I’m going to let you in on a REALLY big secret about being in business for yourself in 2016, IT’S A LOT OF WORK! Everyone wants to tell you how easy it is to start a business, create a product or develop a service, create a website, launch your social media, do sales calls, find new prospects, get new clients, maintain existing clients, work on your business, (marketing, sales, accounting and hr) and the list goes on. In 2016, there is more technology at your hands to make being an entrepreneur even easier but guess what? It’s still a lot of work.
The reality is that if you are starting your business and you don’t have a million dollars in funding, you are going to have to wear a lot of hats. You will need to play a lot of different roles. Roles you probably never really thought about when you first fell in love with the idea of owning your own business. Remember those day?
So for those of you that are contemplating starting a business, I don’t want to scare you but I want you to know that if you aren’t willing to talk to others about what you do, and if you aren’t willing to put yourself out into the world and share you passion for your business then it will be difficult to succeed. If you expect, that the sales person you hired will work as hard as you do, your dreaming. If you believe, that by setting up an instagram account and having a 100 followers or recieving a 100 likes you will automatically get sales, you will be setting yourself up for failure. If you think propects will actually call you back without you following up (yes, they do sometimes) here’s your reality check, they won’t.
But let me tell you about the realites of how amazing it is to be an entrepreneur in 2016. If you are willing to talk to people and be authentically you most will respect you time and most will want to either work with you or help you. If you do put yourself out there and sell on a regular basis you will make money and guess what, there is no limit to the amount of money you can make. If you update your Instagram, snap chat, facebook account on a regular basis you will find people who are genuinely interested in what you do. If you find good prospects you won’t have to wait for them to call you back, they will sign up right after they get off the call with you. You can create your own schedule, and like I do, spend several hours in the middle of the day at the beach with my son. You can share with the world your passion for your business. While some days being an entrepreneur is a lot of work, it will be one of the most rewarding things you do in life. So don’t give up.
