Designing a content workflow. What is it? Why you need it? And how it will make your life 1000 times easier.
Today, I am going to share with you the process we have created for creating a content workflow. Having a content workflow in place is going to make you life a thousand times easier.
What is a content workflow? A content workflow is a standard flow with which your content is created and then distributed. The reason why I suggest having a content workflow is that it’s going to make life a thousand times easier. Here is an example, for our business it goes something like me initiating a facebook live, then we take the live downloaded it and then get it transcribed. Once it is transcribed we turn it into an email and a blog. We also take the live video from facebook and upload it to youtube.
From there we then schedule the email and the blog. We distribute the blog and the youtube videos to different social media networks like LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, etc. The beauty of this is that I create one piece of content and then I can have the team help me distribute it to all the different outlets.
All too often I see entrepreneurs and small business owners create content specifically for the blog, lives, emails etc. I’m going to let you in on a little secret, all of the big internet marketers create ONE really awesome piece of content and distribute it to all the different platforms and networks! Why? Because blog people are blog people, facebook live people are facebook live people, email people are email people, and podcast people are podcast people.
As a business owner, I don’t want you spending your wheels right? And the thing is for many of us our content marketing efforts should be able to generate x number of our leads. So if we are constantly trying to create custom content for all of these different sources were actually never going to get anything done.
Standing out in the online world is getting more and more competitive and value driven content is what is going to get you stand out in the social media
Focus on creating one incredible piece of content each week. I know when I give my team one of the Facebook lives I’ve created it is a really awesome piece of content that I am proud of. Then I can focus my thinking on the next strategic action for the business. This avoids me getting stuck in the micro decisions of what picture am I going to post with what text. The team makes the decisions based on the content I’ve already created.
That’s a content workflow. If you choose to adopt one in your business it is going to make your life a thousand times easier. Even if you do not have a team. It will put the process on autopilot and you can focus on the content rather than trying to remember what to post where.. I see so many entrepreneurs get all messed up about. They have no work flow, they don’t have themselves set up to succeed when creating content. They get too busy in the weeds of running their business and forget to work on their business.
