Over Commiting Yourself
I can admit that I am guilty of overcommitting. Agreeing to too many things in the day that I know I won’t be able to accomplish. For me, when I was not able to complete the near impossible list that I had created for myself, I would often be disappointed and feel as though I were playing catch up. As a mom and an entrepreneur, there were countless times when unexpected responsibilities would pop up that I was unable to get out of and I would leave half of my to-do list for tomorrow.
I’ve learned over the years that there are ways to avoid thinking like that, and a big solution was to stop myself from agreeing to take on more than I had time for. Recognizing that I was overcommitting allowed me to hone down the list of to-do’s and move much faster. As a business owner, it was life changing when I started planning out my quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily commitment. It meant that I was able to create an overarching schedule where nothing was left out and there was plenty of time to complete each task.
On top of this, I began setting aside time each morning (personally, I would get up at 5 a.m.) to take a solid block of time without any distractions. This was incredible in increasing the amount of work that I could do, and half the list would be finished within that time frame. Streamlining better scheduling for my time allowed me to move my business forward because I was able to stop feeling negatively at my unaccomplished to-do list.
