Quick Fixes and Marketing
I was chatting with a potential client the other day that was looking to run ads on Indeed for her business. She was looking to recruit financial service people, and I was a little shocked. For anyone who has put an ad up on Indeed before, it’s super easy to get it shut down for no reason at all. We’ve had that experience ourselves and have 4-5 shut down. You have to be SO careful about what you put in the description and what you do. You have to verify your account to prove you are who you say you are, then they ask you to put ad spend being your posting. This was her sole way of building a team and I got scared for her!
In my 15 years worth of business, there have been so many issues with different platforms that using just one can be risky. Facebook ad accounts being shut down, sites being blacklisted on Google, Instagram accounts being terminated… I’ve seen it all. Often we go for the “quick fixes” in marketing, like creating Facebook ads, posting on LinkedIn or running a Pinterest account. So many people are trying to turn just one area of marketing, like Facebook ads into a million dollar business. That’s not how marketing works, that’s only advertising! For me, nothing makes me crazier than quick-fix solutions. It’s like throwing a Band-Aid on a bullet wound and hoping that it stops the bleeding.
When I see people trying to implement tactics like that, they’re only dealing with one avenue of their potential lead generators. People hop on what’s trending at the moment and forget that it’s important to have more than one source of leads or traffic for your business. Someone I know had done all of their marketing for years through a personal Facebook account had 10,000 friends and were getting all their leads there. When the Facebook page got shut down, it left them in a complete rut in business. Rather than only focusing on growing one area, it’s important to expand all aspects of your business so that you can consistently be bringing leads into your business, regardless of the trends.
