As many of you know I had my son about a little over 3 months ago. In the past three months I have experienced more highs and lows then most of my life prior. I have been challenged to be a better partner to my spouse, a better mother to my son, and a better consultant to my clients. I have had more focus then ever before. I have taken more chances, grown more confident and sold more deals in a shorter period of time then ever before. My little company is growing, rapidly.
With this personal and professional growth I’ve tried to set aside some time to reflect (this is extremely difficult with a 3 month old, lack of sleep, house, work blah blah blah you get it). During my few minutes of reflection here and there I have realized something strikingly important….FOCUS. It is a very simple 5-letter word that makes all the difference in effectiveness. This focus has made me more human at work.
Focus has changed the day-to-day activities of my life. This focus has encouraged me to be more present with my family time, putting away the phone and disconnecting from all the gadgetry. Professionally this focus has produced better results for my clients. It has given me a sense of urgency and competitiveness like never before.
For the first time in a very long time I’ve deleted the head trash. I’ve removed the self-doubt that can at times hold you back, the excuses, and ALL those reasons that you can make up in your mind to prolong true success. Or in my case, growth, to get you to the next level.
Now, I won’t say that ALL the head trash is deleted but what I will say is my brain is much cleaner and the trash gets picked up on a much more regular basis. This “life-defining” moment of the birth of my son has changed so many of my daily practices in life and in business. I encourage you to share your stories on what “life defining” moments have shaped your focus.
