Outgrowing Clients
One of the inevitable parts of running a business is that you are going to have clients that you simply outgrow. The bigger that your business gets, the more you are going to run into this problem. I was thinking recently about how we used to have clients that were paying all different rates for our services, with some paying only $400 for our Done for You side of things and others paying $1000. This can be tricky because as your business grows and you continue to grow your services, your pricing is bound to increase. We had to breach this with our clients who were paying old rates and let them decide whether or not they would be able to afford our new higher pricing or if they were willing to accept less service since they were paying less.
This is a great example of how you can outgrow clients. Wouldn’t it be better to have 1 client who is paying $1000.00 for your services, rather than 5 who are all paying $200? Those who are your ideal client are going to value your services more highly and be likely to pay a higher price for them in the long run. Really take a look at the clients that you are working with and ask yourself if they fit into your idea of your ideal client. As you grow the business and build that solid foundation, ask yourself if the people that you work with are the type you want to continue a relationship with. If you have someone who is happy with the way that you do things, they are going to be happy with the service that you are providing to them as well. The reality of the situation is that you don’t have to stay in bad business relationships that aren’t working for you especially if they are impacting your business. Overall, it’s inevitable that you are going to outgrow clients, so embrace the change and work towards getting more and more of your ideal customers!
