This Nighttime Habit is Transforming my sleep
Ever since we launched the Day in the Life series on Youtube (if you haven’t seen that already, you can watch it here: http://bit.ly/OMGdayinthelifeseries) I’ve gotten so many questions about my daily routines. One of the things that I wanted to share with you guys that has made a huge difference in the past few months has been unplugging from all technology for a few hours before I go to bed. This hack has changed the way that I sleep completely, and it’s all thanks to the book Digital Minimalism. Even though it’s not my favorite book, there are so many great lessons and messages around being strategic and intentional with your use of social media. For me personally, I started tracking the amount of time that I was spending on my phone each day because I would catch myself scrolling endlessly on social media for no real reason.
Now, after putting my kids to bed, I completely check out of watching T.V. or being on my phone. I try to choose reading or even doing nothing and I’ve noticed a HUGE difference in the quality of my sleep. I can now get hours of sleep and I wake up feeling completely refreshed rather than groggy. We spend so much time connected to our technology that it’s refreshing to completely unplug. Don’t get me wrong, I still have days where I binge watch my T.V. shows and go on Facebook, but I’ve definitely cut down dramatically on the time that I spend doing these things. I wanted to have this talk with you guys because so many of us do it without even thinking, and aren’t even aware of the amount of time that we’re spending on social media. I really do suggest setting a time limit for the amount of hours that you are spending on your phone or computer so that you can really focus on yourself and your family.
