Instagram by the Numbers Marketing By the Data Series 2 of 6
We’re kicking off part 2 in my series about social media and data. Yesterday’s podcast was all about Facebook, and today we’re going to dive deep into Instagram. More than 1 billion people use Instagram each month and 500 million use the platform every day. Hashtags are the biggest way to be found by other users and 7 out of 10 hashtags are branded. More than 80% of users follow at least one business on Instagram. They also have more than 500 million active daily stories each day, which is crazy to me! This is a relatively new feature to the platform and it shows the power of content that disappears. Instagram originally was meant to be in the moment, sharing pictures as they happened. Instagram stories have really been able to bring that “instant” feeling back to Instagram and they aren’t going to be going away. Instagram stories are really important to incorporate into your marketing plan.
I really shocking statistic for me was that 95% of U.S. Instagramers also use Youtube. That is crazy to me! Couple that with the fact like Instagram audiences are more engaged on weekdays and there has been an 80% increase in video usage on the platform. Having video as part of your content strategy is going to make a big difference in your long term goals. Another big thing that I wanted to point out is that photos with faces in them get 38% more likes than those without. This means that if you’ve been using stock photography or trying to avoid putting your face out there on your business page, chances are you’re missing out on an opportunity to connect with your audience. I can’t suggest enough getting a branded photo-shoot done and really putting a face on the content that you are putting out there. If you want to really start to grow your Instagram and put yourself out there, make sure to check out this episode.
